5 common symptoms of chronic nephritis

Nephritis is a condition in which the nephrons, the functional units of the kidneys, become inflamed. This inflammation, which is also known as glomerulonephritis, can adversely affect kidney function.

5 common symptoms of chronic nephritis

1. Proteinuria

In nephritis, the permeability of glomerular capillary wall increases so that the plasma albumin is filtered by basement membrane, and then proteinuria is produced.

2. Hypertension

Through regulating the metabolism of water and sodium, the kidney can affect the effective circulating blood volume, and produce renin which affects the renin-angiotension-aldosterone system, leading to hypertension.

3. Eyelid edema

Chronic nephritis may present with eyelid swelling. The patient's body will have excess water, which will cause this phenomenon of edema.

4. Tubular urine

Tubules are formed by coagulation and precipitation of albumin in urine, so in nephritis, there should be tubules in urine.

5. Anemia

Renal anemia is usually caused by dilution due to water retention; when the glomeruli are seriously damaged, erythropoietin is reduced and anemia occurs.
