Causes of frequent urination at night in CKD patients can be explained from two aspects:

1. Due to a drop in kidney function, kidneys have to work harder at night to discharge metabolic products that should be excreted during the day.

2. The onset of urine involves two processes, namely glomerular filtration function and tubular reabsorption. In right condition, about 99% initial urine can be reabsorbed, however, the declined tubular reabsorption can be another cause of this abnormal sign.

Additionally, other factors can also lead to frequent urination at night, for instance, drinking large amount of water before going to the bed; usage of diuretics; endocrine disease, etc.
