Symptoms of Hypertensive Nephropathy

Symptoms of Hypertensive NephropathyHypertensive Nephropathy is a result of long-term persistent and poorly controlled high blood pressure and it usually occurs after people suffer from hypertension five to ten years. In the early stage of hypertensive nephropathy, as patients suffer few or no obvious symptoms, it is easy to be ignored. Once it develops into an advanced stage, numerous symptoms will occur.

1. Proteinuria

Protein in urine which is always manifested as bubbly urine. As we all know, glomeruli are the filtering units of our body. When they get impaired, protein which should be preserved in the blood will leak into urine. If left the disease alone, massive proteinuria will occur.

2. Severe swelling or edema

Swelling or edema is a common symptom in Hypertensive Nephropathy, and in serious case, swelling may occur in the whole body.

3. Hematuria

This symptom is commonly called blood urine by the majority. It only occurs to some patients due to the broken capillaries and it is a transient symptom. In clinic, there are mainly two types of hematuria which refer to gross hematuria and microscopic hematuria. In comparison, microscopic hematuria is more common among people with kidney disease caused by high blood pressure.

4. Frequent urination at night

Renal tubules have the function of reabsorption. Therefore, when it is damaged, water filtered by glomeruli can not be reabsorbed successfully, leading to the condition that large amounts of fluids are excreted. This is how frequent urination at night occur in hypertensive nephropathy /hypertensive kidney disease

Besides, digestive problems such as poor appetite, nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal bleedings may occur when hypertensive kidney disease develops into advanced stage.
