I find this page by accident. When I click the online consultation, a real doctor just appeared in the video. He answered all my questions and made a detailed analysis of my kidney problem.

I love drinking coconut water but unfortunately, I was diagnosed with SLE last year and I am not sure that whether I can drink this beverage or not. I will be appreciated if you can do me a favor. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your inquiry. To be frank, there is no exact answer for this question. Because that needs to depend on your individualized condition.
Many studies have shown that coconut water has a good antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity effect. For people with SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), they are more susceptible to infections and inflammatory. Therefore, drinking moderate amount of coconut water is good for them.
Along with the progression of SLE, it will cause damage to the kidney. The commone lesion is the Lupus Nephritis. And due to kidney damage, swelling, proteinuria, high blood pressure, etc will occur. Coconut water can also be used as diuretics. Drinking coconut water can help patients with kidney disease produce more urine, which can make more wastes and toxins flow out of body. However, if patients with kidney disease have serious swelling symptom, they should limit intake of water.
However, not all people with this kind of disease can drink coconut water freely because its high potassium and some other minerals. If your blood test shows you have potassium or others, you has better avoid or at least limit intake it.
