Does My Mother Need Start Dialysis with Creatinine 7~8

my mother’s GFR is 5, and she is 151cm, 48kg. Her creatinine level usually ranges around 7~8, which happened 4 years ago. And she does not start dialysis yet. I want to know whether my mother needs dialysis now.

A: as for your mother’s condition, you are not suggested to help her start dialysis immediately. As you mentioned, her creatinine level lasted for 7~8 for about 4 years, which means her conditions was roughly stable. If she still can urine everyday, it means there is still kidney cells who can work.

If you plan to help her start dialysis now, you need to make sure an enough dialysis. Namely, she needs 3 times of dialysis per week at least and the dialysis time should as much as 12 hours.

However, as dialysis continues, the blood that flows into the kidneys will reduce. As a result, the kidney damages may develop fast. Thereby, if your mother does not suffer from certain severe complications, such as heart failure, severe high blood pressure etc, she is suggested to delay dialysis.

Good news is that certain herbs help repair the damaged kidney tissues, which may help improve her kidney functions naturally. If you have interest, you can email to renal-disease@hotmail.com for the herbs list.
