Questions: hello, doctor, I am a patient with FSGS. I am troubled by itchy skin now. I want to know why do i have itchy skin? I have already attached my test report.
Answers: I have already read your test report. Your creatinine level is much higher than the normal level. From your test report, your kidneys have been severely damaged. Considering to your condition, the possible causes are as follow:
Kidneys are responsible to filter the waste products and toxins in blood. Since your kidneys are damaged, they cannot well do their jobs. So the waste products and toxins will accumulate in the blood. Some of the toxins will be discharged through skin with sweating. The discharged toxins on skin will stimulate the skin, causing itchy skin.
It can also due to electrolyte disorder. Kidneys also function to keep electrolyte in balance. With FSGS, there will be low level of calcium and high level of phosphorus, which is relate to itchy skin.
The accumulation of the toxins in blood may also lead to high level of plasma osmosis pressure and the fluids in the skin will be forced to transfer to blood vessels. So you will experience dehydration. Dehydration can also result in itchy skin.
These are the main causes of itchy skin in FSGS. Do you have a clear mind about this? If not, you can send email to renal-disease@hotmail.com for further information. In addition, your itchy skin can be relieved with some herbs. If you want, you can tell me in the email. I will give you some suggestions about the Chinese herbs.
