Why Fever and High Blood Pressure Occur after Dialysis

Q: Why there are fever and high blood pressure after dialysis, are there any suggestions?

A: Thanks for your consultation. Firstly, we need to figure out what dialysis is. Dialysis refers to extracorporeal circulation of blood, which means it can work as an artificial kidney. Mostly, doctors may recommend patients to undergo this treatment to excrete wastes, excess fluid, etc out of the blood to a certain degree. However, there are always some side effects. Such as, muscle cramps, arrhythmia, anemia, fever and so on.

Due to low immunity, dialysis patients can be easily affected by certain infections, and I doubt fever has close connection with infection. So, please tell the doctor to check whether there is infection with catheter.

As for high blood pressure, the reasons can be various, such as:

1. Increased blood volume.

2. Increased secretion of renin and angiotensin.

3. Application of erythropoietin(EPO).

4. Generation of vasoactive substances.

If it is convenient, please send us your latest report including the urine test, blood test, kidney function test, etc to renal-disease@hotmail.com and we will contact you as early as possible.

In Chinese medicine, we can take measures to protect the renal cells from being damaged. If controlled well, there is hope of getting rid of dialysis. Best regards!
