The GFR test measures how well your kidneys are filtering a waste called creatinine, which is produced by the muscles. A GFR result below 15 mL/min/1.73 m2 is a sign of kidney failure and dialysis will be prescribed. Therefore, how to improve GFR becomes a concern for the patients with this condition.
What is GFR?
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a test used to check how well the kidneys are working. It estimates the volume of fluid filtered from the renal glomerular capillaries into the Bowman's capsule per unit time.
The ways to improve GFR:
1. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy
It is an advanced natural therapy which is based on Chinese Herbal Medicine. This therapy takes effects to repair kidney damages and improve kidney function quickly, because the herbal ingredients can permeate into kidney tissues directly through skin, with the help of effective penetrant and osmosis devices. Clinical practices have been proved that this application method is both effective and convenient. It is a personalized therapy. Each herbal formula is only for one patient.
2. On diet
* Eat low potassium food, for example, grapes, cranberries, fennel, onions, celery, beets, spinach, string beans and asparagus. Kidneys are the main organs to filter potassium. High potassium foods can increase kidney burden.
* Increase the iron intake.
* Increase the amount of water you consume unless you are on dialysis. Trade other drinks, such as soda, for water. Also refrain from drinking. Determine your best daily intake for fluid with your doctor. Limit your fluid intake instead of increasing it if you are on dialysis based on doctor’s recommendation.
* Limit the amount of sodium you consume. When your kidney health is poor, extra sodium and fluid will build up in your body.
3. Avoid medicines harmful to kidneys
Avoid taking pain killers regularly. Occasional use of acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin should not harm the kidneys; however, if you suffer from chronic pain and take them daily, your kidneys are at risk.
