What Food Should A Person with Kidney Disease AvoidDiet just likes a double-edged sword that can help control kidney disease symptoms, in turn, it also can worsen illness condition and speed up progression of renal failure. Therefore, a good knowledge of kidney-friendly diet is necessary and important for patients and their families. Well then, what food should a person with kidney disease avoid?

Actually, eating healthy foods, working with renal dietitian and following a renal diet made up of kidney-friendly foods is important for people with kidney disease because they experience more inflammation and have higher risk for cardiovascular disease. But a real good diet should be recommended according to patients’ illness conditions. Here we will give some information about diet that should be avoided.

1. High-protein diet

Protein can be found in meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, nuts and some grains which can help our body form muscles and tissue. But when kidneys are not working well, the byproducts of protein breakdown can build up in your blood, increasing your kidneys’ burden. Therefore, in order to reduce kidneys’ workload, it is important to keep away from high-protein food. However, in case of CKD, it’s crucial to avoid malnutrition, so high-quality protein intake should be guaranteed.

2. High-potassium diet

Having the right level of potassium in our body helps all our muscles work smoothly, including our heart. For kidney disease patients, they are prone to suffer from high potassium level due to decreased filtration’s ability. Many foods are rich in potassium like dried fruits, potatoes, organs, bananas and so on. If you need to limit potassium, you’d better to avoid these food.

3. High salt diet

Eating too much salt is dangerous for kidney disease patients. Because renal disease patients are more likely to suffer from swelling and high blood pressure. Therefore, it is important to limit intake of salty food like process food, caned food, pickles and so on.

Aside from the mentioned above, patients should also pay attention to the food which are high in phosphorus and fat. Any questions, please do feel free to contact our Online Doctor or email to renal-disease@hotmail.com and we will do our best to help you.
