Cautions for Lupus Nephritis DietThere are many things Lupus Nephritis patients should be cautious of in their daily life and among them diet is especially important.

The following foods patients should be cautious of:

1. Stimulating foods

Lupus nephritis patients should avoid irritate foods. These foods may induce allergy, which can aggravate patients’ conditions. These foods include spicy foods and some seafood.

2. Photosensitive foods

Patients should avoid photosensitive foods, which can enhance light sensitization, like ficus carica, astragalus smicus, spinage and celery. If you eat them carelessly, you should avoid sunlight exposure.

3. Some Fungi

Some fungi like grind and mushroom may have the potential of inducing lupus nephritis.

4. High fat foods

Patients usually are not recommended to do too many exercises, so too much fat intake may cause high blood fat. And many patients have poor digestive function, so they should stay away from greasy foods.

5. Foods with high sugar content

Glucocorticoid is used to suppress the immunoreactions to reduce inflammation in kidney. However, long-term use of glucocorticoid may increase risk of steroid diabetes, so patients should eat less and reduce high sugar content foods.

6. Foods high in sodium

Too much sodium can aggravate swelling and high blood pressure, so patients should avoid salty foods and processed foods.

The following foods are recommended to lupus nephritis patients, as these foods can help them ease some symptoms:

1. Foods rich in iron

When kidney suffers damage, patients are susceptible to anemia. In this condition, patients can eat foods rich in iron to alleviate this symptom.

2. Foods high in calcium

Glucocorticoid can induce osteoporosis, so patients should eat food rich in calcium to prevent this condition.

And some vegetables and fruits containing vitamin D can stimulate calcium sorption.

All in all, lupus nephritis is not an incurable disease. If patients can deal with it probably, they can well control their diseases. We really hope the above information can help you in this aspect.
