What to Do with High Creatinine? Doing These Things Helps Slow Down Kidney Deterioration
When urinary protein is high, your doctor may tell you to reduce it. When blood uric acid level is high, your doctor may also tell you the same. Then when serum creatinine level elevates, you can get the answer.

But creatinine is not the same.

Creatinine is different from other indicators of kidney disease. It is a small molecular substance, which is filtered through the glomeruli and rarely absorbed in the renal tubule. And creatinine produced daily is almost all excreted with urine, not affected by urine volume. The change of serum creatinine concentration is mainly determined by glomerular filtration rate. When filtration rate decreases, serum creatinine concentration increases. Therefore, creatinine exceeding normal value mostly means kidney damage, and because creatinine is not sensitive index, when glomerular filtration rate drops by 2/3, serum creatinine will rise significantly.

All in all, creatinine value is directly related to glomerular filtration rate. If GFR does not decrease any more, creatinine level will not rise naturally. If GFR keeps on decreasing, creatinine level will go up, and it won’t come down.

Therefore, if you just want to lower your creatinine level, it is not helpful for improving your medical condition. This is just to console yourself.

Normal creatinine level range:

Male: 53-106 mmol/L; Female 44-97 mmol/L. (In different districts, the value may be a little different).

Then when creatinine rises, where should the emphasis be placed?

Elevated creatinine means you have entered renal insufficiency stage, in which there are two tasks. One is to ensure that GFR does not continue to decline, and the other one is to prevent and actively treat complications.

Let's go down a little bit, it is to pay attention to these indicators.

1. Reduce proteinuria

Proteinuria has always been an independent risk factor for kidney damage. The more proteinuria, the more serious the kidney damage.

The safest is to drop it to 0.3-0.5g/24h. The minimum standard should also be within 1g/24h.

Patients with renal insufficiency should pay special attention to the side effects of drugs when using them.

2. Reduce blood pressure

Whether it is renal hypertension or Hypertensive Nephropathy, it should be actively controlled. The kidney is the target organ of hypertension. The continuous increase in blood pressure will increase the pressure on the kidney so as to accelerate the glomerular sclerosis, cause the glomerular ischemic injury, and speed up the process of glomerular fibrosis.

It can also cause a series of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. Therefore, you must use drugs under the guidance of doctors. If necessary, do not reject combined drugs. All in all, you should stabilize blood pressure with all means.

3. Attach importance to blood potassium

Hyperkalemia is a common and serious complication during the period of renal insufficiency. When the renal function gradually declines, potassium can not be passed out adequately, which can cause limb weakness. In severe case, it can cause sudden cardiac arrest or death, which is very dangerous.

Therefore, you should do regular monitoring. when the potassium level is more than 5mmol/L, you should be vigilant. (normal serum potassium is 3.5-5.0mmol /L).

4. Prevent and treat anemia

Anemia is also a serious complication in the middle and later stages of kidney disease. It is mainly caused by severe kidney damage, which can decrease erythropoietin production so as to affect the production of bone marrow.

Patients with renal insufficiency should pay attention to hemoglobin indicators. Mild anemia can be improved by diet, such as eating red meat (lean pork, beef, sheep), animal blood and so on. If it's serious, you should be injected EPO.
