Sometimes, dialysis is considered to be a lifesaver. Then when does a person with kidney disease need dialysis?

Dialysis is needed when kidneys are no longer able to discharge the waste products, extra water and excessive electrolyte in blood. For different people, the time to start dialysis is different.

Dialysis is thought to be able to relieve the symptoms, prevent complications and control the progression of the initial disease. Wether a person need dialysis or not depend on the many factors, such as the exact illness condition, the lab tests, and the economic condition.

You might think that it is better to start dialysis early. As a matter of fact, it is not like that. Once you start dialysis, you may become a dialysis dependent. Long-term dialysis will cause more damage to kidney function. For the rest of your life, you will suffer a lot on dialysis.

However, it does not mean that it is good to do dialysis as late as possible. During the dialysis induction period, you may be attacked by serious complications, such as high blood pressure and heart failure, which will increase the risk of death.

Then when should a person start dialysis?

The doctor suggests that if you meet the following conditions, you should start dialysis.

-You get serious high blood pressure, diabetes or SLE.

-Aged people.

-You have obvious symptoms, like sleepiness, cramps, nausea, vomit, acidosis, heart failure, heavy swelling and so on.

-You are troubled by high potassium level.

-Complications occur such as pericarditis, pericardial effusion, gastrointestinal bleeding and so on.

So whether you should start dialysis or not depends on your own condition. If you do not fully understand, you can ask the online doctor. Or you can send your medical report to renal-disease@hotmail.com, the kidney doctor will give you a specific reply based on your condition.
