How to Treat Low Blood Pressure for Dialysis Patients

2014-04-03 00:23| Font Size A A A

According to the statistics, about 20%-30% dialysis patients will experience low blood pressure. As frequently occurring hypotension can increase the patient’s pain and lead to a rapid loss of residual kidney function, it is necessary to take actions early. Then, how? If you are interested in this, please read on.

1. Pay attention to the dry weight

Patients should talk with their doctors regularly, meanwhile, doctors need to assess their dry weight by taking medical history, nutritional indexes, diet, blood pressure, etc into consideration.

2. Control body weight between dialysis sessions

It is acknowledge that higher filtration rate is associated with inadequacy of effective blood capacity. Between dialysis sessions, the increased body weight should be below 5% or 3% of the dry weight. To attain this goal, the intake of fluid and salt should be restricted strictly.

3. Correct anemia and malnutrition

Because anemia and hypoproteinemia affect the colloid osmotic pressure within blood vessels, attention should be taken to correct anemia and malnutrition.

4. Adjust dialysis solution

If the onset of low blood pressure is related to the dialysis solution, doctors should make some changes concerning dialysis solution. In this way, the blood pressure can be well controlled.

5. Adjust medications

On the day when dialysis is needed, patients should not take anti-hypertensive drugs. If hypotension has little to do with dry weight, dehydrating speed or others, patients can take one or two pills of Midodrine Hydrochloride Tablets 20 minutes before dialysis, which can be used to prevent hypotension after this alternative therapy.

6. Others

If low blood pressure occurs after eating, patients should make some dietary changes during dialysis accordingly.
