FBGA fasting blood glucose test — also called a fasting plasma glucose, or FPG test — measures blood glucose levels after you've gone without food for at least eight hours. It's reliable, and the results aren't affected by your age or the amount of physical activity you do. Many doctors prefer the fasting plasma glucose test because it's easy, fast and inexpensive.

Why It’s Done?

This test is used to measure your level of fasting blood glucose to diagnose diabetes.

What is the Normal Range of Fasting Blood Glucose?

Fasting blood glucose less than 100 mg/dL is normal.

Follow-up

If the first level is above 125 mg/dL, the fasting blood glucose test will be done again (for example, the next day) to confirm a diagnosis of diabetes. A value between 100 and 125 mg/dL indicates pre-diabetes. Someone with a result in this range should be followed closely, with follow-up testing.
