What Are the Symptoms of Shrinking of KidneyKidney shrinkage also known as kidney atrophy, refers to that kidneys are smaller than normal sizes. It is commonly seen among those who suffer from End Stage Renal Disease, renal artery stenosis, renal dysplasia and so on. Well then, what are the symptoms of kidney atrophy?

It is reported that for healthy adults, their kidneys are 10-12 cm in length, 5-6 cm in width and 3-4 cm in thickness. And along with people’s aging, the elderly people’s kidneys are 9.2-11.8 cm. If the size is less than 9.2 cm, it can be called kidney shrinkage. Actually, patients with atrophic kidney is one indicator of loss of kidney functioning tissues. With the condition, patients are prone to suffer from the following conditions:

A patient with kidney shrinkage may suffer from nausea, vomiting, fatigue and anemia.

Along with the progression of illness condition, patients will develop into uremia, namely Kidney Failure.

Patients will also suffer form swelling (on the face, eyelid, leg and feet), skin itching, and severe back pain.

Due to decreased renal function, patients will experience high blood pressure and weight loss.
