Three Steps to Prevent Gout from Worsening into Uremia

Gout that is out of control or poorly controlled for long periods of time can damage the kidneys, reduce kidney function, and even lead to kidney failure. Therefore, kidney damage should be treated timely once being detected.

Three major early symptoms of gouty kidney disease. The earlier you know them, the better.

1. Hypertension

2. Increased nocturnal urine

3. Persistent or intermittent proteinuria

4. Uric acid stone

Among them, the first three symptoms are more typical, and urinary protein generally does not exceed 2+ in the early stage.

In patients with gout, uric acid crystals will form in the body. Because of damaged kidneys, excess uric acid can not be discharged, leading to uric acid stone.

and the kidney is damaged, and the excess uric acid is hard to discharge, and uric acid calculi will be formed. Therefore, patients with early stage of gout kidney disease will also have symptoms of renal colic and hematuria. And in order to avoid the deterioration of renal function, the most important thing is to control the primary disease and uric acid level, which is divided into three parts: diet, medicine and exercise.

1. Dietary therapy

(1) Low purine diet

A low-purine diet helps reduce the production of uric acid in the body.

The food low in purine includes milk, egg, all sorts of fresh vegetable, fruit.

In addition, food with high purine should be avoided, such as animal offal, various broth, seafood such as sardines.

(2) Increase your intake of alkaline foods.

Fruits common to see in the daily such as apples, grapes and pears are alkaline.

(3) Avoid spicy food.

Spicy food such as chili, spicy dry tofu, hot sauce; Greasy food such as various fat meat; Salty food such as pickles.

(4) Drink plenty of water

Water drinking should be limited to 2500-3000 ml per day, and eating fruits with more water can help reduce uric acid and reduce the damage to the kidney.

2. Medications need to be distinguished.

If the gout patient has not yet developed kidney damage, uric acid excretion agents such as pyloropydone and sulfampidone can be used.

Kidney damage has occurred:

Allopurinol can inhibit the deposition of uric acid in the kidney;

Patients with hyperuricemia with mild to moderate renal insufficiency can take benbrommalone;

Patients with renal insufficiency need to reduce the dosage of colchicine;

Glucocorticoids are commonly used in those who do not tolerate NSAIDs, colchicine, or renal insufficiency.

3. Moderate exercises

Walking, jogging, swimming, tai chi, etc. can also help reduce uric acid and protect kidney function.
