A Single Urine Test Can Predict the Risk of Renal Failure
How far is renal failure away from you? A single urine test can predict the risk of renal failure!

Although uremia accounts for a small proportion of the total number of kidney disease, the uncontrollable and unpredictable risks of kidney disease still make many patients worry about the deterioration. If kidney disease progression can be predicted early, the high-risk population of renal failure can be accurately identified and targeted treatment can be conducted as soon as possible. Not only will it help patients live a healthy life and reduce unnecessary deaths, but it will also dramatically reduce the medical expenses of patients with chronic kidney disease, especially those with low or no risk. How to predict early whether kidney disease will get worse or not?

Urine is a mirror of kidney disease. It contains many codes that are closely related to human health. A simple urine test, not only can know the type of kidney disease and judge the severity of the disease, but also can detect diabetes, urinary infection, acute cystitis. However, you may not know that a protein in urine can be used to predict whether patients with chronic kidney disease are at risk of deterioration. A urine test can help identify and pretreat high-risk patients with renal failure, improve quality of life and reduce deaths.

This protein is called epidermal growth factor protein. Epidermal growth factor (egf) is a kind of peptide growth factor composed of 53 amino acids. In urine, 90% of epidermal growth factors are synthesized by the kidneys. EGF, as a factor with strong cell division, may control the growth of glomerular mesangial cells and affect the filtration rate of glomeruli and the infiltration of inflammatory cells.

At present, renal biopsy is the gold index for judging kidney disease. However, it is invasive, has high cost and certain risks, such as bleeding, infection and pain. Besides, it cannot be repeated, and its ability to predict future progression of kidney disease is limited.

But epidermal growth factor can reflect early renal damage sensitively, which can be used as a sensitive indicator of early renal damage, and its content in urine can also be an important indicator of severity, efficacy and prognosis of renal diseases.

It was found from 47 adult patients with different types of kidney disease that the content of epidermal growth factor in urine was directly proportional to the clearance rate of creatinine and inversely proportional to the blood creatinine. The results indicate that the excretion of epidermal growth factor is closely related to renal function. If the level of egf in urine is reduced, patients should be on alert. It is an early indicator of kidney failure.

Patients with kidney disease need only a single examination to predict the risk of progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in a few years, and they can also be compared before and after twice. With the development of the study of epidermal growth factor in urine, this method can be used as a partial replacement for biopsy, and it is cheap, simple, easy to operate and repeatable. Therefore, patients are easy to accept, and it is worth promoting in more hospitals. For more information on Kidney Failure, please leave a message below or contact online doctor.
